Find the charger for your device.
Charging speed is decided by the device, not the brick. Every phone, tablet and laptop publishes a maximum input in watts and a protocol it needs to reach that number — buy above it and the extra watts sit idle, buy below it and you wait. Look yours up.
Device class → wattage → protocol
Three specs decide whether a charger is right: the wattage the device will actually draw, the Power Delivery extension it needs to draw it, and the cable in between. This is the short version; each device page below adds the cable spec and three matching adapters.

How to read your device's number
Wattage is a ceiling, not a dial. A 27W phone on a 100W laptop charger still draws 27W; the negotiation is run by the device (how PD works). So oversizing is safe and undersizing is merely slow — except on laptops under load, where an undersized adapter lets the battery drain while plugged in.
Protocol failures look like wattage failures. The classic case is a Galaxy on a 65W charger with no PPS: it drops to roughly 15W and the owner blames the charger's size. Same story with a 16″ MacBook Pro on a 100W brick with no 28V rail. Match the extension first, then the watts — see PPS explained.
The cable is part of the spec. Above 60W you need a 5A e-marked cable; above 100W an EPR 240W-rated one; pre-2023 iPhones need USB-C to Lightning. Details in the USB-C cable guide, and the general sizing method lives in what wattage do I need.

FAQ
How do I find my device's maximum charging wattage?
Check the manufacturer's tech-spec page for a line like 'fast charge with a 20W adapter or higher', or read the label on the adapter that shipped in the box — that number is usually the device's design target, occasionally one class below its true ceiling.
Can one charger cover a phone, a tablet and a laptop?
Yes, with a multi-port unit sized to the sum of the simultaneous draws plus about 20% headroom. A 65W two-port covers phone plus ultrabook; a 100W three-port covers phone, tablet and a 14-inch laptop.
Does a charger with more watts damage a smaller device?
No. The device requests a voltage and current contract and the adapter supplies exactly that. AirPods on a 140W laptop charger draw the same couple of watts they always did.
Why is my new fast charger slower than the old one?
Almost always a missing protocol or a cable limit: no PPS for a Galaxy, no 28V for a 140W laptop, or a 3A cable capping a 5A profile. Wattage on the box is only the ceiling, not a promise.
