Galaxy S24: the charger you own is probably missing one letter — PPS.
Base S24 caps at 25W; the S24+ and S24 Ultra accept 45W. Both tiers reach those numbers only through Programmable Power Supply, and the failure mode is silent: the phone charges, it just charges at roughly 15W and never explains itself.
The three specs
Wattage: 25W on the S24, 45W on the S24+ and S24 Ultra. Samsung quotes roughly 0–65% in half an hour for the 45W tier under ideal conditions.
Protocol: USB-C PD with PPS. Samsung calls it Super Fast Charging (25W) and Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45W).
Cable: 3A is fine at 25W; the 45W profile requires a 5A e-marked cable, which is why Samsung bundles one with the 45W adapter.
Diagnosing a slow charge, in order
1. Watch the lock screen at plug-in. "Super Fast Charging" means the handshake worked. Plain "Charging" means it did not.
2. Swap the cable. On a 45W model a 3A cable is the single most common cause, and it costs nothing to test.
3. Check the adapter's listing for a PPS voltage range — something like 3.3–21V. A wattage figure alone is not evidence.
4. Confirm Fast Charging is enabled in Settings under battery options; Samsung ships some regional variants with it off.

Don't waste money on
A 65W or 100W charger for the phone alone. Above 45W nothing is gained. Buy multi-port instead and let a tablet use the rest — see the 65W class.
45W adapters for a base S24. That model stops at 25W. The upgrade only pays off on the Plus and Ultra.
"Quick Charge 3.0" branding. That is Qualcomm's older protocol; it is not PPS and it does not trigger Super Fast Charging on a Galaxy.

Does the Galaxy S24 support 45W charging?
The S24+ and S24 Ultra do. The base S24 caps at 25W, so a 45W adapter charges it at the same speed a 25W one would.
What is PPS and why does my charger need it?
Programmable Power Supply is a PD extension that lets the phone request voltage in fine steps. Samsung's Super Fast Charging is built on it, so an adapter without PPS drops to a basic profile of roughly 15W.
Can I use the S24 charger on other devices?
Yes. Samsung's 25W and 45W adapters are standards-compliant PD units and will charge iPhones, iPads, a Nintendo Switch or a small laptop at up to their rated wattage.
Does fast charging damage the battery?
Heat does, not watts as such. Samsung's own protect-battery cap and the phone's taper above 80% exist to manage exactly that; leaving the cap on is the simplest long-term measure.
