The Switch dock needs 15V, not more watts.
Nintendo's HAC-002 adapter outputs 15V/2.6A — 39W — plus a 5V/1.5A step for handheld. The single fact that decides whether a third-party charger works with your dock is whether it publishes a 15V rail at all. Wattage is almost beside the point.
Why docks fail on chargers that look fine
When you drop a Switch into the dock, the console asks for 15V at 2.6A. If the charger cannot offer 15V, one of three things happens: the dock never brings up video, the console charges but the dock resets when a game loads, or the Switch quietly runs down its own battery while sitting in the dock. None of those look like a power problem, which is why people replace HDMI cables instead.
USB-C PD's power rules require a 15V rail on any compliant charger rated above 27W, so a properly certified 45W or 65W adapter has it. The units that break docks are the non-compliant ones: cheap bricks that jump 5V → 9V → 12V → 20V with no 15V step, car adapters, and USB-A chargers pressed into service with an A-to-C cable (which cannot negotiate PD at all).

The console never draws more than its 39W profile, so a 65W charger is not "safer" or "faster" — it is simply more useful for everything else in the bag. Cable-wise, any USB-C to USB-C cable rated 3A/60W is sufficient; 39W at 15V is 2.6A. There is no e-marker requirement here (cable guide).

Don't waste money on
Third-party docks from unknown brands. The 2018 wave of bricked consoles came from docks that mis-drove the USB-C configuration lines, not from chargers. Power the official dock with a better adapter instead.
