The 3.25A footnote nobody prints
65W at 20V is 3.25A — a quarter of an amp above what a cable without an e-marker chip may legally carry. A compliant charger paired with a basic cable therefore falls back to the 20V/3A contract and delivers 60W, not 65W. You will not notice it on a battery top-up; you may notice it on a laptop that is drawing hard. When 65W is not enough — and when it is too much
Move up to 100W when a MacBook Pro 14″ becomes your main machine, when you want a laptop plus tablet plus phone on one brick without throttling, or when you charge two laptops. Move up to 140W only for a 16″ MacBook Pro or a mobile workstation.

Will a 65W charger charge my MacBook Air faster than the 30W it came with?
Yes, up to a point. The Air's charging circuit accepts roughly 35W on the 13-inch and up to 70W on the 15-inch fast-charge path, so 65W removes the 30W bottleneck but does not double the speed. The gain is largest in the first hour.
Does a 65W charger need a special cable?
For the full 65W, yes — 3.25A exceeds the 3A limit of a non-e-marked cable, so the charger falls back to 60W with a basic lead. Most 65W chargers that include a cable include a 5A-rated one.
