iPhone 15: the generation that made your Lightning cables obsolete.
Electrically this phone charges like an iPhone 14 — 20W floor, high-20s ceiling, plain USB-C PD. What changed in 2023 was the port. Every cable in the drawer became the wrong shape, and that, not the wattage, is what most people actually need to fix.
Numbers first
Max input: the 20–27W band, with the Pro Max holding the top of it longest.
Protocol: USB-C Power Delivery, 9V rail. No PPS, no EPR, nothing exotic.
Cable: USB-C to USB-C. The in-box braided cable is USB 2.0 for data on the non-Pro models, but all four models carry full charging current on it — a slow data cable is not a slow charging cable.
Using less: a 5W brick takes hours; a 12W USB-A iPad brick still cannot fast-charge because fast charge on iPhone requires PD over USB-C.

Don't waste money on
Thunderbolt-branded cables. They charge no faster than a plain USB-C cable; the premium buys data bandwidth this phone's port cannot use on non-Pro models.
Anything above 30W bought for the handset. The negotiation caps out well below it. Watts beyond that only pay off if a MacBook Air or iPad Air shares the brick.
Uncertified "MFi-style" hubs. Since the port is now standard USB-C, there is no licensing chip to worry about — but there is also nothing stopping a bad hub from limiting current. Buy the adapter, not the gadget.

FAQ
Can I still use my old 5W iPhone charger?
Yes, with a USB-A to USB-C cable, and it will be slow — several hours for a full charge. It is safe, just a generation and a half behind.
Does the iPhone 15 charge faster than the 14?
No meaningful difference. Same wattage band, same protocol; the change was the connector, which affects cables rather than speed.
What cable does it need?
USB-C to USB-C. A basic 3A cable is enough — e-marked 5A cables exist for laptops above 60W and add nothing here.
Why does the phone get warm while fast charging?
Some conversion loss becomes heat in the phone. If it is hot enough to be uncomfortable, remove the case during the first half of the charge; sustained heat is what shortens cell life.
