Best-of · One wattage class

The best 65W chargers of 2026.

65W is 20V at 3.25A — the wattage that covers every phone, every tablet and every mainstream ultrabook from one brick. Since all six picks deliver the same 65W, the ranking turns on how those watts split across ports, housing size, and what cable the port demands.

How we ranked these

The five criteria used across the site are delivered watts, protocol correctness, safety certification, size and price per watt, and track record. Within a single wattage class the first is nearly constant, so the other four decide the ranking — above all port split.

Split is the spec manufacturers bury. "65W" on the box can mean 65W to one port and nothing else, or 45W plus 20W, or 45W plus 12W plus 7.5W across three ports. A charger that holds 45W to a laptop while a phone charges is the better product, and only published tables can be judged. We also check the 3.25A cable requirement, which causes most "my 65W charger is slow" reports.

What 65W runs at full speed: any MacBook Air, Dell XPS 13, ThinkPad X1 Carbon, most 13-inch and 14-inch Windows ultrabooks, iPad Pro, Steam Deck, a docked Nintendo Switch on the 15V rail, and every phone made. What it does not: MacBook Pro 14 inch under sustained load (67W to 96W) and MacBook Pro 16 inch (140W).

3.25A is above the plain-cable limit. A cable without an e-marker chip is capped at 3A, which is 60W at 20V — so a 65W charger on a phone cable delivers 60W at best. Any cable rated 100W or 5A fixes it; details in the cable guide.

FAQ

Will a 65W charger power my MacBook Pro 14 inch?

It charges it, and keeps up during light work. Under sustained load the machine can draw more than 65W and the battery drains slowly while plugged in. 96W to 100W is the honest match.

Why does my 65W charger only deliver 60W?

Almost always the cable. 65W is 3.25A at 20V, above the 3A a non-e-marked cable may carry, so the link caps at 60W.

Is 65W enough for two devices at once?

For a laptop plus a phone, yes on most three-port units, typically a 45W and 20W split. For two laptops, no — that needs a 100W budget.

Does a 65W charger fast-charge a Galaxy S Ultra?

Only if it lists PPS. Without it a Galaxy drops to around 15W regardless of the charger's wattage.
