Samsung 45W: the PPS profile is the entire product.
Plenty of 45W-rated chargers exist. Very few of them make a Galaxy S25 Ultra display 'Super Fast Charging 2.0'. The difference is one line on the spec sheet — the current the adapter can hold in its 11V programmable band.
The mechanism, in one paragraph
Super Fast Charging 2.0 does not ask for a 20V PD rail. It asks for a PPS profile in the 10–11V region and pulls roughly 4.05A through it — about 45W. Samsung's own 45W adapter exposes a programmable range of 3.3–11V at 4.05A alongside the ordinary fixed rails at 5V, 9V, 15V and 20V. A third-party charger that advertises "45W PD" but whose PPS object stops at 3A in that same 3.3–11V band can only source about 33W there. The phone reads the advertised objects, sees no profile that meets its request, and drops back to the 25W tier. The charger is not broken and the phone is not broken — the handshake simply never happens.

Be honest about the gain
Samsung's published claim for a 45W-capable Ultra is roughly 0–65% in about 30 minutes; the 25W claim for the same class of phone is roughly 0–50% in 30 minutes. Both numbers describe the same charge curve at different starting slopes, and both collapse to the same speed above about 80% state of charge, where the phone tapers current hard to protect the cells. End to end, 45W buys you minutes, not a different afternoon. It is a real upgrade if you top up in short bursts before leaving the house; it is close to invisible if you charge overnight. FAQ
Why does my 100W charger not trigger 45W on my S24 Ultra?
Because total wattage is irrelevant to the handshake. The phone looks for a PPS profile covering roughly 11V at 4A or more. Many 100W chargers advertise PPS only at 21V, which the phone cannot use.
Does the Samsung 45W adapter charge non-Samsung devices?
Yes. It is standard USB-C PD 3.0 with 5V, 9V, 15V and 20V fixed rails, so it charges iPads, Pixel phones, a Nintendo Switch, or a 45W-class laptop normally.
Do I have to use Samsung's cable?
You need any e-marked 5A USB-C to USB-C cable. Samsung's bundled cable qualifies, and so does any cable certified for 100W or 240W.
Is 45W bad for battery health?
No more than 25W. PPS moves the voltage conversion into the adapter rather than the phone, and Samsung's protect-battery setting can cap charging at 80% if you want to be conservative.
