New Zealand: one adapter, two countries.

Nothing you own fits a Type I socket without help. US flat pins are parallel; Type I pins are angled. European round pins and British rectangular pins are not close either. There is no hybrid socket and no informal workaround, so the adapter is not optional — it is the trip.

230V and 50Hz, and why neither matters

Read the input line printed on your charger, on the flat face beside the prongs: 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz. Every USB-C brick, laptop supply, tablet charger and camera battery charger sold in the US carries it, which means New Zealand mains is inside the design range and the frequency difference is covered too. A switching supply rectifies AC to DC in its first stage, so 50Hz versus 60Hz changes nothing about the watts it delivers. You need a plug adapter. A voltage converter — a real transformer — is a separate device that only heating elements and AC motors call for.

Plan the flight, not just the wall. Auckland is 13 to 17 hours from the US west and east coasts, and in-seat power is a mix of USB-A at low output and, on many aircraft, AC outlets that trip above a modest draw. A high-wattage laptop brick can be rejected by a seat outlet that a phone charger uses happily. The as-is list and the converter list

As-is, on an adapter alone: phones, tablets, laptops, camera and drone battery chargers, e-readers, power banks, electric toothbrushes, cordless shavers, portable monitors, headlamp chargers for the Great Walks. All dual-voltage without exception in current models.

Genuinely needs a converter or a dual-voltage replacement: hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons, travel kettles and 120V-only corded appliances.
