Is a 30W charger better than Apple's 20W for an iPhone?
Marginally, and only early in the charge: an iPhone 15 or 16 draws up to about 27W when the battery is low, which 20W cannot supply.
Do I need the 40W Dynamic adapter for an iPhone 17?
Only for the 17's peak burst rate. The phone charges fine on any 20W or 30W USB-C PD adapter; the Dynamic adapter's PD 3.1 adjustable voltage simply holds a higher rate early in the charge.
Can I charge an iPhone from a 65W or 100W laptop charger?
Yes, with no risk. Power Delivery is device-controlled: the iPhone requests its own profile and the adapter supplies exactly that. Spare watts sit unused unless a second device is plugged in.
Does the cable matter for iPhone charging?
Below 60W any USB-IF compliant USB-C cable carries the full profile, so a basic certified cable suits every iPhone. Cable spec only limits above 60W, where a 5A e-marked cable is required.
